Buttercream Icing

Picture

Ingredients

175g (6oz) icing sugar
75g (2.5oz) butter

Other things you will need

An electric hand beater is helpful but not required.
Any flavourings or colours you might want to add in.

Instructions

Mix the butter and most of the icing sugar until it starts to come together.
Beat it well, suggest beating for at least 5 minutes to get it nice and creamy.
Mix in whatever flavours or colours you want to add.

Tips..

To get that perfect smooth icing look, do a "crumb coat" first. This means doing a thinner, almost sacrificial coat and smoothing it off as best you can, then putting it in the fridge (about 20mins) to firm up. When you now do the final coat on top it should be much easier to get that nice smooth look!

For a tasty orero icing, separate the biscuits and fillings of 10 oreos. Beat the fillings into your buttercream and crush the biscuits and mix them in too.

Always start with only a tiny bit of colour or flavour and see how you go- you can always add more but you can't take it back out!
